A.     Social Function/Communicative Purpose

To tell past events in good sequences or to tell the reader what had happened in the past

B.      Generic Structure

Orientation > Events > Reorientation

Orientation         = opening of the text (who/what, where, when, how)

(pembuka teks yang menerangkan siapa pelakunya, dimana dan    kejadiannya serta begaimana terjadinya)

                                Events                  = series of events in good sequences

                                                                   (serangkaian kejadian yang ditulis/diuraikan dengan urutan yang

                                                                   benar)

                                Reorientation    = Closing of the text (impressive and message)

                                                                   (Penutup teks yang memuat kesan dan pesan)

                                (Reorientation sifatnya optional artinya boleh ada boleh juga tidak ada)

C.      Lexico Grammar

a.       Using Simple Past Tense

·         Verb 2                   : went, stayed, chose, etc

·         To Be (2)              : was/were

b.      Using Temporal Conjunction

Example               : First, Finally/at last, Next, Then, Before, etc

c.       Using certain participant

d.      Using adverb of time

Shirley’s Day Off
Orientation	Shirley enjoyed her day off yesterday.
Events	First, She got up late, went jogging in the park, tokk a long shower, and ate big breakfast. In the afternoon, she saw a movie her sister. Then she bought groceries at the supermarket, and she made a big dinner for her parents. After dinner, Shirley and her parents sat in the living room and talked. After that she watched her favourite film on television. Finally she went to bed.
Reorientation	Shirley had a very nice day off yesterday.

Narrative Text

A.     Social Function/Communicative Purpose

To entertain the reader.

B.      Generic Structure

Orientation > Conflict/Complication > Resolution > Reorientation

Orientation                                 = opening of the text (who/what, where, when, how)

(pembuka teks yang menerangkan siapa pelakunya,                 dimana dan kejadiannya serta begaimana terjadinya)

                       Conflict/Complication             =  conflict usually involvis the man caracter (often mirroring         the complication in real live)

                       Resolution                                   =  there should be a resolution for the conflict the complication maybe resolved happyly or unhapply

                         Reorientation                           = Closing of the text (impressive and message)

Alibaba and The Forty Thieves
Orientation	Alibaba had gone with three donkeys to cut wood in the oasis. Suddenly he looked up and saw a dust cloud raised by many horses coming across the desert toward him. Immediately he hid himself. It turned out that it was a band of robbers returning to the oasis, laden with treasure. The leader got down from his horse and went up to a large rock.
Conflict/Complication	“Open sesame”, he said. Alibaba saw the rock open up and the whole band of robbers ride inside. After a while the rock opened up again and came out the robbers, all forty of them. “Close sesame”, ordered the leader, and the rock closed. Alibaba warled until horsemen had ridden away across the desert, before leaving his hidding place.

Resolution	He went up to the great rock and said, “Open sesame”. When the rock obeyed, Alibaba entered and found himself in a cavern full treasure. He filled as many bags with gold coins as his donkey could carry, and then Eled form the oasis.
Reorientation	From the on, Alibaba lived happily, but he never returned to the oasis. He was a kind and generous, he used the money from the forty thieves to help his friends.
